Catch the Wave to Employment Workshop

Employers are asked to be present from 10:30 to 1:00
Purpose: Catch the Wave to Employment is a workshop for individuals seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce. Its purpose is to help individuals identify their assets, meet employers, explore community resources and opportunities and plan their next step. The workshop assists individuals in building networks connected to employment.
Participants: Between 35 and 50 individuals participate. Individuals have a variety of personal and work experiences and skills and some have their high school or GED.
Role of Employers: Usually four to five employers participate in the workshop. Employers are asked to speak for about five to seven minutes and cover:
· Focus of your company
· Employment opportunities available now or in the near future;
· What you are looking for in potential employees;
· Hiring process, salary range and benefits; and
· Opportunities for training (and skill building) and advancement
We ask employers to provide beforehand contact information for someone interested in applying for work.
Individuals will have an opportunity to meet with employers in small groups after the presentations to ask more questions or discuss their interest and possible next steps.
Employers: Since January of 2009, nine workshops have been held involving 327 participants. Participating employers: Alternatives, Aquila Tours, Avant-Garde Construction, Bayshore Home Health, Bird Construction, Ernie’s Landscaping, FCS Flooring and Concrete, Fortis Properties, Hampton Inn & Suites, Hickey Brothers Demolition Services, Hilton, Home Depot, Horizon NB, John Howard Society, RBC Royal Bank, RST/Sunbury, Saint John Early Childhood Centre, Shannex, Sitel, Wal-Mart, Wyndham Worldwide, XEROX, and YMCA-YWCA.
