Invest Immigrant Mentorship

Mentee Role & Responsibilities

Purpose

  • To participate in a positive mentoring program that will help you meet with, learn from, and engage in dialogue with established local business/professional people.
  • To gain first-hand knowledge of the processes involved with setting up a business, establishing a professional network, and integrating into the local business community.
  • To build a relationship of mutual trust and respect with members of local business community.

Time Commitment

  • Meet for four hours every month for six months.
  • Attend an orientation session, other training sessions, a program kick-off and other networking events.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Make a necessary six month commitment for the program to be a success.
  • To work with the mentor assigned to you.
  • Establish objectives and milestones together with mentor and work diligently toward achieving goals.
  • Commit to follow-up work on mentor suggestions or recommendations and agree to next steps.
  • To be proactive and open to learning.
  • To maintain regular contact with program coordinator and give feedback.
  • To ask for help when required.
  • To honor timelines and appointments agreed upon; to inform in advance if unable to keep appointments.
  • To provide new perspectives to mentor.
  • To provide cross-cultural insights.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • A desire to learn about doing business in Saint John, New Brunswick.
  • Meet the program requirements and criteria.

Program Rules:

  • Discussions between you and your mentor are confidential.
  • If you have a concern you feel is beyond your ability to handle, call the program coordinator, even if it seems trivial.
