The New Brunswick Energy Hub is here….
New Brunswick has had a long history of providing energy solutions to local and North American markets. Every year the Irving Oil Refinery in Saint John exports 82 million barrels of oil to the United States and New England consumes 10 % of NB hydro power. The Point Lepreau Nuclear Power Plant has been producing emission free energy for the last 25 years and is currently undergoing a 1.4 billion dollar refurbishment which will enable the plant to operate for another quarter century.
The recent investment of over 2 billion dollars into mega-projects such as the Repsol Canaport LNG Terminal, the International Northeast Interconnect Power Transmission Project, Corridor Resources Natural Gas Production fields, the Emera Brunswick Pipeline, the Northeast Maritime Pipeline, the Enbridge Natural Gas Distribution network as well as continued enhancements to the Irving Oil Refinery provides little doubt a vibrant energy hub exists in New Brunswick.
In order, to maximize the diverse range of nuclear, tidal, hydro, wind, natural gas, biomass and petroleum based energy opportunities available in New Brunswick every advantage must be leveraged. One of the key challenges facing the ongoing development of the Energy Hub is access to the right skills at the right time.
The Workforce Expansion Initiative team is working with industry;organized labour; private & public learning institutions, community stakeholders and all three levels of government to ensure the skilled workforce required for continued growth of the NB Energy Hub occurs.
