Rothesay

An elegant, historic, small town, Rothesay has the advantages of a suburban community and proximity to a larger urban core. Located 10 minutes from the City of Saint John, Rothesay is nestled in the majestic Kennebecasis Valley alongside the Kennebecasis River. A family-oriented community, Rothesay offers a variety of housing options based on lifestyle and need, including a balance of economic growth, environment, recreation and heritage.

History
Once inhabited by Maliseet and Mi’kmaq First Nations, French colonists and English settlers, Rothesay embraces a diverse, culturally rich history. Named in 1860 at the request of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, the area was said to have reminded him of Rothesay, Bute, in Scotland. On January 1, 1998, the former communities of East Riverside- Kingshurst, Fairvale, Renforth, Rothesay and Wells were amalgamated to form the Town of Rothesay. The Town motto, “Quinque Iuncta In Uno (Five United In One)”, represents the strength and unity of the municipality and the joining together of the five founding communities.

Lifestyle
Rothesay is truly a “community of communities” with heritage character (some structures predate Confederation), natural parks and green areas, and modern amenities. The community is family oriented, and provides numerous schools, places of worship, and recreation areas, along with the convenience of local commercial retail.

Business
Rothesay has experienced over 14,864 square metres (160,000 square feet) of commercial growth within the last two years, including small and largescale development.

Current proposed developments have the potential to add an additional 10,458 square metres (112,580 square feet) of commercial development.
The area has a highly educated, rapidly growing workforce.
